Character Age: Mid-to-late 30s.
Inventory: A customised Colt .45 sidearm, and a pack containing essential survival items (Food rations, spare ammo, blankets, first aid kit etc.), as well as some dusty and bloodstained clothes, including a bloodied bandage around his head.
History: Mack @ The Unit Wikia
Canon Point: 04x13 - The Spear of Destiny
Personality: Master Sergeant MacDonald James Gerhardt, US Army Special Forces, known as Mack to just about everyone, is a pretty simple man to understand on the outside. He portrays the typical, no-nonsense, gruff military-type, one whose spent his years in camo with his boots on the ground. It's very likely that this is the case, as Mack bears badges and tabs from the 24th Infantry, as well as the 101st Airborn Divisions in the US Army.
Mack is a Senior Special Forces operative, trained for covert missions into enemy situations, where the aim is to blend in and often capture or take down a target with minimal distruptions or fuss. Due to this, Mack is very good at hiding his true self beneath personas, easily switching roles, adapting and changing to his environment.
Mack is, also, one of the most cold-blooded members of the Unit. He'll easily shoot down someone without a second's thought if it will jeopardise their mission. Whilst he isn't immune from guilt, as when he was forced to shoot a young boy who was going to betray their location to the enemy, as well as their guide when he realised they couldn't free her from under heavy farm equipment, he never lets it interfere with the mission, choosing to bury it deep down.
Married, with two daughters, Mack adores his girls, and dotes on them, even going as far as to dress up like a woman for his eldest's History project. His relationship with his wife, Tiffy, is rocky, to say the least. It's established early on that Mack may have been abusive towards Tiffy to the point where Col. Tom Ryan and Sgt. Jonas Blaine had to step in to make it stop. When Mack's anger flares, he's shown to manhandle Tiffy, and she seems generally scared of him when he does that. The secretive nature of the Unit's missions put a strain on their marriage, and, no doubt, contribute to the tensed air of their relationship.
Whilst Mack is shown to generally be in control of his emotions, there are certain times where he shows no restraint at all. When he suspected Tiffy to be having an affair with a lawyer, called Wilson James, with whom she served her Community Service, Mack stole a "throwaway" gun from a street gang, with the intent of killing him. Once Tiffy found out, she had to urge her boss, who had become attracted to her, to leave the State, even telling him the Unit's secret in order to get him away. It's heavily implied that, if Mack caught up with him, he would have killed Wilson easily.
It's established early on that Tiffy is having an affair with Mack's CO, Col. Tom Ryan, often whenever he sends Mack on missions. Once Mack finds out, he has to be stopped by his teammate, Bob Brown, from going straight to Ryan and killing him. Mack, himself, doesn't have a spotless sanctity of marriage record, however, and, before confronting Tiffy about the affair, he admits to sleeping around when on Missions. This doesn't stop him from wanting to kill Ryan, however, and when he gets his chance, he finds he can't do it. This is likely due to his own guilt about sleeping around, and the threat that Tiffy would take his kids away from him if he did. Either way, Mack reluctantly showed mercy.
He is shown to be wracked with guilt, believing that he allowed one of his teammates to be shot dead. Mack was rear guard as they loaded another wounded team member onto the evacuation truck. Out of the blue, a sniper fired and killed Sgt. Hector Williams. Mack holds himself responsible for Hector's death. The canon point he's from, The Spear of Destiny, Mack is injured and near-death. During which, he has a series of visions, or hallucinations, involving that time, and all the others he feels guilty of; killing the young boy, killing their guide, and letting Hector get shot. This shows that he carries this baggage with him all the time, that there probably isn't a moment where he doesn't think about it.
All around, Mack has a tough exterior with an explosive interior. His job comes with stresses and guilt that he needs to work through, but it also provides a release for the anger and violence inside. Whilst shown to have an explosive temper, as long as he has something to channel his energy into, that side will not often surface without good reason or restraint. He is a quick decision-maker, a strong tactician, and isn't afraid to do what's necessary to ensure his survival, the success of their job, protection of his friends, and the security of his country.
Skills: He's an expert marksman with any number of firearms, expert in hand-to-hand combat, particularily in dirty boxing, expert at espionage, and a master parachutist and tactician. He can also perform basic combat medic roles. He's also pretty great at blending in, speaking a number of languages such as Italian and some forms of Arabic. Other than that, he's just human...
Supernatural Abilities: None.
Samples: Something wasn't right...
He was in hospital, sure, but... No. It didn't sound like any hospital he'd been to. Sure, there were people around him bandying about medical terms, but it didn't smell like a hospital... Or sound like one. Too many beeps and bleeps going on. Far too many.
Pretending he's still out, Mack cracks open his eyes slightly, hearing someone get closer. His eyes fix onto a uniform he's unfamiliar with, a flash of blonde hair, and a woman's voice noting his vitals. He waits until she moves on before he opens his eyes fully.
And what he sees greatly concerns him. He looks around, no sign of Jonas, or anyone in his team, hell, not even anyone in fatigues or anything. He wouldn't have been sent to a civilian hospital, but, even then, there's no civilian hospital that looks like this
"Doctor-!" A voice calls out to his right, a man's voice, a man who approaches. Mack doesn't think twice. His hands are unbound, he lashes out, catching the figure on the chin and causing him to stumble back. He's on his feet, looking around, spotting a door and making a break for it. Of course, he doesn't get too far. Something strong grabs him, something pressed against his neck. He thrashes, flailing, trying to hit out at whatever is holding him... before everything goes dark...

TDM with the Captain
Aspirations: Security. Mack would do perfect in security because of his canon occupation. That, and learning to deal with his inner demons would be just a bonus. He's a fast learner, so can probably integrate himself into the Illyria's crew pretty easily. I can just see him being a pretty awesome security officer.

This will likely be Mack's motivation to accept Eli's offer, another chance to move on, to think and try to deal with it in another setting.
Character's skills/abilities/powers: He's an expert marksman with any number of fire-arms, expert in hand-to-hand combat, expert at espionage, and a master parachutist and tactician. Other than that, he's just human...

The key peice of information needed to convince him will be that he can return to where he was at any point past his inital six months.

You know how it goes. You could be going through your normal every-day lives, when a news report flashes up, or a siren goes off. Or, you could be emergency services, or military.
What will you do when the state of emergency is declared?
Scenarios
Natural Disasters
1. Earthquake - The standard earthquake can cause much destruction.
2. Flood - All that rain was bound to break something...
3. Tornado/Hurricane/Twister - Sometimes, life just wants to punish you.
4. Tsunami - Earthquake and flood rolled into one... hope that's just an aftershock.
5. Volcano - So, the mountain you decided to be around has indigestion.
6. Virus Epidemic - Everyone seems to be coming down with a bad case of the plague. And it's highly contagious.
7. Space - A Meteor or an Asteroid has, or is going to, collide with the Earth.
Man-Made Accidents
1. Accidental Nuclear Exposure - Poor maintenance, shoddy storage techniques, or crappy security measures.
2. Accidental Chemical Exposure - Better stay away from the glowing green goop in the sea. It probably won't give you super powers.
3. National/International Power Outage - It'll be back on, soon, right?
4. Fire - Maybe you should be more careful where you toss your cigarette butts.
5. Sheer incompetance - Perhaps the Virus Epidemic is caused by a test subject escaping? Careful what strays you pick up, and who you shake hands with.
Intentional Man-Made Disasters
1. War - The most common way to ravage an area.
2. Bio-chemical Weapon - Weaponised disease.
3. Civil Unrest - Due to a serial killer, or the rising price of oil. The streets are no longer safe.
4. Nuclear Attack - Looks like they finally went through with it...
5. Transport Hi-jack - With the intent to take as many people down with them...
Sci-Fi Channel/SyFy Movie Disasters
1. Sharknado - A tornado... made of sharks. Pretty self-explanatory.
2. Mongolian Death Worms - Did you try to steal their treasure?
3. Mega Pirahnas - Don't go in the rivers.
4. Sudden Ice-Age - Baby, it's cold outside...
5. Sudden Heat Wave - So take off all your clothes.
6. Aliens - Whether it's an alien computer virus taking over a Soviet Battleship, or Stonehenge as a doomsday device.
7. Volcano in downtown - Gee, did the Planning Department mess up this time!
PROMPTS
1. In the middle - You just got caught up in all this. Are you hurt? Will you help others, or do you need help yourself? Are you the type to take command, follow orders, or sit in a corner?
2. Emergency Services - You're a member of the Emergency Services or Military. Were you trained for this? Will you still be able to help, or just fall apart?
3. Instigator - All this is your fault, whether accidentally or on purpose. Do you help out, or sit in your doom chair and laugh?
4. After-effects - Maybe that virus caused zombies, or you're living in the throes of Nuclear Winter. Perhaps you're rebuilding, or plotting revenge.
5. Obligatory Romance Prompt - Nothing like the end of civilisation to bring two people together...
1. Post a comment with your Character Name, Canon, and preferences in the subject line or comment.
2. Leave your comment blank or type up a starter by picking from the above. Whichever you prefer.
3. Find someone else to tag into. Use RNG or pick a prompt.
4. Have fun with the end of the world.
